LEVEL 1 THE HAUNTED HOUSE
It is a dark , dark night. The weather is very bad. It's raining .The thunder goes '' Bang! Bang! Bang!. The lightning lights the dark night.
Tom and Suzy are with their dog,Bob. They are scared because of the thunder and lightning .They try to find their way home.The thunder bangs loudly. Bob isfrightened .
Bob runs through the woods as fast as he can.He runs until he comes to a house.
Tom and Suzy run after Bob. They cannot see Bob. They see a weak light far away. They decide to follow the light. It is a house , a haunted house.
They walk into the hall. '' Bob!'' '' Bob!'' They shout his name , but hear nothing at all.
They decide to look around the house.First , they start in the kitchen. There are lots of pots ,pans and plates in the kitchen.
There is a big snake in the kitchen. The snake shows its fangs at Tom and Suzy. Suzy doesn't like snakes. She screams in fear and says,'' Help! I am scared!''
They run out of the kitchen and into the bathroom. Do you know what they see? An octobus with eight long legs in the bath. Tom says , '' I am so happy that he hasn't got more legs!''
They look in the study and see something strange on the floor. They walk towardsit .It is a hard shell, but what is inside in it?
A turtle!Well , well! It is an old turtle. Perhaps he's two hundred years old. Perhaps older than that. They can't find Bob there. '' Bob!'' '' Bob ! Where are you ! '' There is no reply.
They look in the lab. There is a big , black cat on the shelf.It looks angry. Over there on the floor is horrible rat.
They look around for hours. They can't find Bob in the house. Then ,they decide to go home. They should tell Mum and Dad that they cannot find Bob. It is nearly the morning. '' I miss Bob,'' says Suzy. '' Me too,'' says Tom.
Tom and Suy get to their home. It is morning. A few minutes later they hear a noise.'' What is it ?'' asks Tom. They open the door. There is Bob with a bone..
They hug Bob. '' Bob , you are back!'' '' I am so happy he is back here safely with us.''

LEVEL 1 THE FIRST MARATHON
It is the year 490B.C. There is a war between the Persians and the Athenians.
Persia is a huge empire , much bigger than Greece. Persia wants to conquer Athens. They reach the Greek territory with a great force in big ships. They land the Greek territory of Marathon.
The Athenian soldiers wait on the top of a hill while the Persian army waits on the plain of Marathon.There are 48,000 Persian soldiers , and only 10,000 Athenian soldiers.
Athens and Sparta are neighbouring states. Spartans are good fighters. The Athenians send a messenger , Pheidippides , to Sparta to get help. He runs for hours over the mountains to ask the Spartans for their help.
But the Spartans say they won't fight until there is a full moon.
Pheidippides returns to Marathon alone.
The Athenians can not wait any longer. They decide to attack the persian army. The Athenians run towards the persian army. The Persians do not expect such asudden attack. Persian arrows shoot through the air , but they can not stop the Athenians.
The Athenians win. 6400 Persians are killed , but only 192 Athenians die, It is a great victory for the Athenians.
The Persians run to their ships and try to escape. They try to go to Athens before the Athenians army.
They want to capture the athenian women ,children and people waiting there.
The Athenians realize the Persians bad plan. They must warn the people in Athens. Pheidippides now has another job. He runs forth kilometres to Athens , to tell the Athenians that they have won the war , and to tell them that the Persians are coming.
Pheidippides runs nonstop. He arrives at the city gates very tired. '' Rejoice, we are victorious!'' he shouts. Then he dies.
From this great event comes the Marathon race of the Olympics .The olympic Games of modern times begin in 1896. Greek runner , Spiridon lousi , wins the first Marathon race.
And like Pheidippides a long time before , he also carries messages. He is a young postman.

A young prince lives with his father, the Caliph,in a large palace.The young prince is very unhappy because his mother died. After a few years , the Caliph marriesagain.The prince's step mother is very unkind. The Caliph doesn't care much about the prince , which makes him unhappy.
On the 15th day of the month of Sha'aban , the son says to his pet pigeon,''Let's not stay here anymore ,Let's run away because nobody here cares about us .'' So they both run away into the jungle.
The prince walks for a long while .Finally , he reaches a grand palace which belongs to a ghoul.The prince is tired and says to the pet pigeon ,''This is the ghoul's palace .We should'nt stay here , but we are so cold ,hungry and tired .We need a rest for a while. He might be asleep ,Lets sneak in and rest till the morning.''
But the ghoul isn't asleep. He watches the prince walk into the palace. The prince looks around and sees a bed. He sleeps in the bed for the night.
The morning comes and the prince wakes up .He is surrounded by golden bars. He is trapped and scared . He wishes he never left his home.
The ghoul says,''I know all about your evil step mother . Your father doesnt love you. I am lonely , so I ' ll keep you here as my pet.'' The little prince pleads with the ghoul to set him free .The ghoul growls at the prince ,'' I will send your pigeon home with a message .If the Caliph loves and you and misses you , he will follow the pigeon back here and save you .If not ,You will stay here for the rest of your life''
The pigeon flies with the message to the Caliph 's palace.
After his son runs away ,the Caliph cries and prays every night . He wishes he saw him before the holy month of Ramadan. On the last night of Sha'aban ,he feels that his son is close. He opens the window and finds the pigeon sitting on the ledge. He knows that he has to follow the pigeon , but it is really dark.
The Caliph's sister ,a princess ,has an idea .She asks local people to help the Caliph.She asks people to carry a lantern and walk with him to find the prince.News travels quickly. Soon every man ,woman and child carries a lantern and helps the Caliph.
On their way , the children sing songs to celebrate the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. The prince hears the songs and sees the light from his prisonwindow. He knows it is his father.
The ghoul is surprised that the Caliph comes for the prince .The ghoul feels sad.He says , ''I was wrong .Your father loves you . You are free to live.''
The young prince hugs his father. They return to their home and fast together to celebrate the first day of Ramadan.
The Caliph is so happy .First , he rewards the local people with gold lanterns to hang outside their houses to remember the event.Then , he orders his minizters to light the streets and mosques with colourful lanterns to add joy to the area .
Since that day , young children buy colourful lanterns to celebrate the first day of Ramadan.

Little Red Riding Hood lives in the woods with her mother. One day Little Red Riding Hood goes to see her Granny.She takes a yummy cake with her for her Granny.She walks to her Granny's house .
One her way ,Little Red Ricing Hood meets a wolf. ''Where are you going?'' asks the wolf. '' I'm going to see my Granny. She lives in a house behind the trees. answers Little Red Riding Hood.
The wolf runs away. He runs to the Grandmother's house.He wants to get there earlier than Little Red Riding Hood.
He arrives at Granny's house and knocks on the door. '' Who is it?'' asks Granny. ''It 's me!'' replies the wolf. Granny opens the door. The wolf jumps on Granny .He eats Granny up! He sits in Granny's bed and waits for Little Red Riding Hood.
A little later ,Little Red Riding Hood arrives at the house. She looks at the wolf in Granny's bed. Granny , what a big nose you have!'' says Little Red Riding Hood. ''All the better to smell you with , my dear !''replies the wolf.
'' Granny , what big ears you have!'' '' All the better to hear you have!'' says the wolf.
'' Granny ,what big eyes you have!'' '' All the better to see you with!'' says the wolf.
''Granny, what big teeth you have!'' ''All the better to eat you with!'' shouts the wolf.
Little Red Ricing Hood screams!
A wood cutter is in the wood.He hears a scream. '' The scream is coming from the house where the old lady lives. Someone needs my help!'' says the wood cutter.
''If she is in trouble ,I must run quickly!'' He starts to run through the woods to the house.
He arrives at the house soon and sees that the door is open.He runs inside and sees a wolf in there.He hits the wolf over the head!
The wolf opens his mouth wide and shouts.Suddenly , Granny jumps out of the wolf's tummy!
The wolf runs away and never comes back.
''Thank you for your help,'' says Granny to the wood cutter. ''Thank you , sir,''says Little Red Riding Hood to the wood cutter.''I am happy you are safe,''replies the wood cutter.

Haven't seen you for a long time . How are you ? I 've got some great news for you . I've an invitation from my pen friend .I am going to have a holiday in İzmir.İzmir is a beautiful city in western Türkey. I am going to fly on the 5 th of july.My pen friends is going to meet me at the airport. His name is Burak. I am going to stay at their house for a fortnight.
Burak says there are lots of interesting places in and around İzmir. We are going to visit Bergama,Ephesus and Selçuk to see the remains.Burak also says that there are long sandy beaches near İzmir.We are going to have a swim in Kuşadası and Çeşme.
I am sure there are lots of souvenir shops in İzmir.I am going to buy an old carpet and a lamp for my room. I am going to by a souvenir for you as well. Do you want anything special for yourself?
Burak has sent me lots of photographs of İzmir. He says Kordonboyu is a nice place . We are going to have a walk there in the evenings .Everybody says that the Türkish cuisine is wonderful. I aam going to taste as many kinds of Türkish food as possible.
I am going to fly back to London on the 20 th of July. Burak's father is going to drive me to the airport. My father is going to meet me at Heatrow Airport.The first thing I am going to do is to start fitness class . When I am back , I am going to visit you with my present for you.
By the way , 22 nd July is my parents 20 th wedding anniversary. We are going to have a big garden party.Would you like to come.You can spend the night at our house. I am sure I will have lots of things to tell you about Turkey , and Burak.
